This big adventure started on the 11th April 2007, when we decided to sell our flat in Peckham, leave our jobs and say goodbye to The Smoke after a colourful and tempestous 9 year relationship. Nick left his role at itsu restaurant in Soho (and before you start wondering, no, not the one where the unlucky Russian drank his last miso soup. That was down the road at Picadilly) exactly a month after leaving the Peckham flat. However Emma still had a contract to finish and her students were relying on her to guide them effortlessly through their law exams which she did, with gusto and a 93% pass rate!!
During these final months of fear and loathing we were lucky enough to be offered bed and board in a 4th floor flat perched high above the streets of Hampstead Heath, our host the master interogator, lothario and classicist, Captain C.M. Hill of Dorset. Here we stayed untill Emma finished work in July. While we were there we (mostly Nick!) re-decorated in lieu of rent. We enjoyed lots of decent wine, were introduced to the peculiar pleasures of Germanic opera, and got thrashed (mostly Emma) at more than a few games of draughts.
Well, we're down on the coast now, at Nick's mum's (Sandy) on Shoreham Beach. We're still waiting to complete on our new flat, and have a suspicion that it won't be until days before we leave the UK. Just to add to the stress levels!!
We're due to leave on the 28th September, and this is our itinerary:
28 Sept to 5th Oct: Bangkok
6th Oct to 12th Nov: New Zealand
13th Nov to 9th Jan 08: Australia
10th Jan to 14th March: India
15th March to 14th April: Kenya/ Tanzinia/ Malawi/ Zambia
15th April to 27 Sept: Zambia (Kaloko Trust)
We'll be updating our blog as the adventure unfolds!
