Varkala, Kerala

Our first impressions of Kerala, the most southerly state in India, from the train...after a HUGE journey on the old train from Ooty with 2 stops and an overnight stay in Coimbatore!

The elephant festival that i wasn't too keen on all round!

Mysore and Ooty

A shop selling essential oils.

The bazaar in Mysore- which we loved!

Out and about in Hampi

The temple at the end of our road!

Blessing from Lakshmi, the temple elephant.

We had to cross the river to get to our accomodation. The boatmen finished at 6pm and the water was so revolting there was no chance of swimming across!!

After the boat-ride we walked through rice paddys to get to The Goan Corner, where we stayed.

There are thousands of temples around Hampi, so we hired a scooter and did a 'drive by' on some of them!

A Hindu ceremony where the worshippers wash themselves in the holy (?) water of the river.

Despite a week of sneering at the hippies who used to tight-rope outside our hut... we had to give a go before we left! (and it's really difficult!!)

Train to Hampi from Goa

Goa

Walking to The Blue Corner, a set of bamboo huts that we'd been told about by some girls we met in Mumbai.

Local fisherman near our hut.

Enjoying a well-earned rest!
